Great tv, researched. the white clouding doesnt bother me but took off a star for the clouding.
Super thin for an LCD but the plugs go in perpendicular so if you have it mounted on the wall it can be tricky. I pounded a hole in my drywall, smoothed it out and repainted so I had a concaved area where the plugs connected.TV is great, remote is cruddy and the pocket remote is worse.
The picture quality on this TV is absolutely amazing. I use this in a well-lit room with lots of windows and I have no problems with glare or the picture being hard to watch. The viewing angle makes this TV viewable from every spot in the room. Setup and configuration was very easy and customizeable, and there were plenty of inputs on the back to accomodate all of my devices. This is my main TV in the house and I am extremely happy with the purchase.
I bought this from an on-line warehouse that listed it as a demo unit that had minor scratches and blemishes on the bezel and screen. Although the screen is 10" larger than my old 42", the overall height and width are the same, so it looks gorgeous in my living room. No scratches at all.
from when it was new, I took the gamble as my old HDTV had a cracked screen due to an energetic teenager playing rough with the dog (or so the story went) in the living room. The sound is average, as it does not have the built-in sub-woofer of my old Sony projection TV, but we have it piped through our 650W Home Theater system anyhow, with Polk speakers and 250W subwoofer. For less than half the price (~$1300).
The picture quality is beautiful. The 850 was the top of the line Samsung from the year before, and I'd seen the picture quality and thinness of the unit and had always drooled over it. I could have gotten one of the newer LED Samsungs which are very thin, but for twice the price.Needless to say, it showed up looking like a brand new unit.
Programming the Tivo remote to run the TV, Tivo-HD, and Home Theater was easy and it works seamlessly. I'm now installing a wall mount to get it off the old TV stand, which will look awesome as the TV is less than 2" deep.Overall, I'm more than pleased with the TV and the quality of the picture.
The picture and features of this TV are tremendous. Three more calls to Samsung 'support' and I am now told my ticket has been escalated to an "Exchange" Samsung states that two weeks from now a new TV will appear at my door and the broken one will be removed.UPDATE2: New set delivered yesterday. Total turn around time from initial problem report to resolution was about 7 weeks. Several phone calls later, and after sending in digital photographs of the problem, I was told I had a "bad panel." I then went through a series of three different "field engineers." Pics are here: [.]. Guess I'll keep my fingers crossed.Ironically, I barely ever watch TV. Given the price tag, I expect you would not want to to see this happen to your purchase. Nine months after purchase, however, I turned on the TV and a black line was present along the middle-left aspect of the image. Wow is it nice.
Buy something else.UPDATE: Samsung engineer was at my home yesterday, one month after my initial call. He indeed said "This is a bad panel" He tried to place an order for the part and was told that replacement panels for this model are no longer being manufactured. Warranty for this one, I am told, is only 90 days. I've spent more time over the past couple months addressing the issue of the broken TV than I would typically spend watching it.
